Ok, so here is the second part of my update - for Nov-Dec.  It started out so well and then I had my office Christmas party and I also went out for my (soon to be) sister-in-law's birthday.

I am back on track and saw a nice loss this past Saturday at my WW meeting.

Also - WW started their new program.  Now they look at the calories, saturated fat, sugars, and protein to determine the (now called) Smart Points of a food.

This has actually re-energized me and made me really look at some of my food choices.

I have stopped grabbing a candy or two out of the dish at reception everyday.  I have increased my fruits and veggies, and stopped having a granola bar for my morning snack.  I am working on drinking more water all throughout the day and am not adding milk to my tea.  I increased my protein, especially at breakfast and lunch.

Most important I stopped binge eating on Saturdays because "I had already weighed in" and "it doesn't count/will just be a part of my weekly extra points".

I still had treats on Saturday - they were just smarter choices and smaller portions.

I am very excited about the new program (even if they are having technological issues on the app and website).  It really does make me think before I just have that bite, lick or taste.

Now I just need to develop some plans and solutions for Christmas.  I do not want to gain 5 to 10 pounds and spend the first part of 2016 working to get back to my pre-holiday weight.

Again this month has been a lot of back and forth (up and down) and I am not really any further ahead.

While the weather is cooler, it's not super cold out yet.  What has been keeping me from evening walks has been how dark it gets by 7:00pm.

Time to pull out the exercise videos and get my butt moving.  No excuses!

Pi Beta Phi Convention 2015 - Part 2

OK, after a long delay - let's get back to the end of June (4 months ago) and the rest of Convention

Day 3 (Saturday) of my trip was really the first full day of the convention.

We had a FHC/CHC Breakfast at 8:30am (Fraternity Housing Corp/Chapter Housing Corp).  I was running late and ducked in right as it started at 8:30am.  Krista was a few minutes behind me as she was having trouble drying her hair.  We ate breakfast with the other representatives from CHC that were at convention.

Then we had our second General Session at 9:45am, then the Opening Session for the FHC Housing Symposium and lunch at 12:30pm. After lunch was another General Session (where Alberta Alpha won a Spirit Award!).

Four of us AB Alpha Alumnae (including myself), went to the pub in the hotel for some munchies after the General Session.  Lunch that day was a cold beef salad that was a bit lacking.  The wings we ate were huge and delicious.

I made it to the FHC/CHC reception before dinner (after changing into a different dress for dinner) and talked with a woman from Vermont that had a fire in their Chapter house.

Saturday night was the Dinner by Chapter, so I had the opportunity to catch up with one of my sisters that now volunteers for one of the head office committees.

This dinner started with each chapter having a representative walk out into the Grand Ballroom with a banner.  After dinner we took some pictures with our banner.

It was a full day but the alumnae ended up meeting together in one of the hotel rooms with some wine.  Much, much later I crawled into my bed tired but happy.

Day 4 (Sunday) started with a Memorial Service for the Pi Phis that had passed away since the last convention two years ago.  I got a late start to the day and unfortunately missed the service.  I made it to the FHC Housing Symposium after grabbing a coffee and a breakfast bar.  Krista finally had enough of the hair dryer blowing cold air and called to get a new one.  We should have thought of that earlier.

It was another full day with the Heritage Lunch after Part 1 of the Symposium.  At this lunch we had our Cookie Shine as well as listened to the three women who were given Members of Distinction Awards.  First there was Chris who was a Navy Pilot, then there was Ruth, who just may have been the highlight of convention with her speech.  She had note cards that she tried to follow but she kept losing her place but it did not matter.  She just told stories about her life including World War II and her work with various charitable organizations.  It was so inspiring and entertaining to hear about life as a Pi Phi back in the 1930s and 1940s.

After lunch we initiated 4 women as alumnae.  I loved the ceremony.  Then we were back into Educational Sessions.  This time FHC set a Jeopardy style game to see how we would handle different situations.

Dinner that evening was the Foundation Dinner.  Our original speaker unfortunately was ill and was unable to make it to convention - but her sister, a fellow Pi Phi, was there as one of the Members of Distinction.  So she made a speech about her life as an Olympic swimmer.

After dinner just two members of our AAC (Alumnae Advisory Committee) came back to the room Krista and I shared.  Another long but informative day ended.

Goals for 38

So, now that I have looked at all I accomplished as a 37 year old - I want to review the goals I made for myself last year and make new goals for this year.

1.  Exercise More

 - I was walking around my neighbourhood every evening for a while.  Lately I have got lazy, either that or I fill my evenings with meal prep and laundry.  Really it's just a bunch of excuses.  So while I did exercise more, it was not as much as I could have done.

 - I am going to keep this as a goal for next year too.  First I need to get out and walk before it starts snowing and gets icy.  After that I need to join the Terwillegar Rec Centre or the YMCA.  I know that I feel better and sleep better when I get in my 10,000 steps on my FitBit.

2.  Eat Better

 - Sigh.  I missed the mark on this one.  I did commit to bringing my breakfast to my WW meetings on Saturdays.  I also pretty much stick to my points on Sundays.  The work week has never been my problem.  I can go out for lunch and make smart choices.  I either avoid food brought in by co-workers or I freeze it and take it home for later.

 - So this one definitely goes on my list for next year.  As a 36 year old I lost 28 pounds, as a 37 year old I lost 17 pounds.  Not great.  I need to start making better choices and tracking my food everyday, not just here and there.  I can do this.

3.  Finish my Online Course

 - Well, if you remember, back in December I was basically kicked out of the Legal Assistant program because I was taking too long.  I did get a certificate as an Administrative Assistant.  So I guess I got something for the work I did put in.

 - I might look into taking some purely online courses that are not part of a school or program.  Just things to improve my learning.  For now, this part of my future is done.

4.  New Job

 - This of course ties into the previous goal.  Since I never completed my program, I never looked for a new job.

 - I am going to return to this one in the Summer of 2016 (after my brother's wedding).  I'm not going to make it a part of my goals for 38.

5.  Dating

 - Ugh.  I actually managed to talk to a few guys online.  Never got to the point where I wanted to meet up with anyone.  Am I being too picky?  Have I surrounded myself with thick walls of protection?

 - This one is really going on my list for the next year.  Even if I could just make a couple of new friends.  I need to stop overthinking it and just talk to anyone I think is interesting online.

6.  Single Mother By Choice

 - With everything else that has been going on in my life I have not really had this on my radar.  It's still in the back of my mind.  I will also come back to this in 2016 and not worry about it right now.

It's My Birthday !!

It was my birthday on Tuesday. Here I am, another year older, and about to begin my life as a 38 year old woman.

I am mostly proud of my accomplishments over the past year. Looking back, I got derailed when it came to the goals I made for myself, but I also achieved in areas that I would not have even thought of a year ago.
Overall work went well. At Christmas I was recognized for the 6 years I have worked at the company with a gift card, plus I received a bonus. Early in 2015 I had a review and got a raise. My only disappointment was a major mistake I made with the mailing list for one of our magazines. I am still happy most of the time but I might look into other opportunities this summer. I did not complete the Legal Assistant online program but I did get a certificate for an Administrative Assistant and that should look good on my resume (combined with my experience).
I travelled to Victoria to see my parents for both Thanksgiving and Christmas last year as well as early September 2015. This year I won't see my parents until my brother's wedding in May. It will be odd, but hopefully we can ease the distance through phone calls and Facetime.
Yes, TJ is finally engaged to his girlfriend and they are getting married in Niagara Falls over the May Long Weekend 2016. We took family photos in February that they have used for engagement photos. I also helped my future sister-in-law find her wedding dress. It is so pretty!
2015 was the year that I travelled more and that was really fun. I went to Chicago for my Fraternity Convention in June. Then I went to Seattle for the Labour Day long weekend in September. Getting my passport updated (and back into my maiden name) was beneficial.
What I am really proud of this year is that I joined the Chapter Housing Corporation for my Fraternity and became super involved as a Pi Beta Phi alumna.  I loved Convention. I also got to go to a wine tasting and the Alumnae Tea. I spent many hours at the chapter house building new dressers and making it a better place for the collegiates.
I lost almost 17 pounds. Looking back over my posts, I am a broken record, I always wish I could have done more work to lose more weight. I have to stop talking about it and just do it. The only thing in my way is me. I did get more exercise this year but it is truly just a case of eating less and moving more.

37 was a pretty good year, hopefully 38 will be even better !!

Ugh.  Not a great month for me.  I left for my company BBQ/Camping Trip on Aug 29 after just stopping in at my WW meeting to be weighed.  I was up about 2.5 pounds, which put me back to where I was two weeks ago, and a few weeks before that too.  I want to be consistently down 70 pounds with WW and then lose even more.  Enough with the up and down and then back up a bit and then back down.

I know it's because I have been making poor food choices on Saturdays and not exercising.  There is nothing wrong with having a treat on Saturday, but I need to not eat whatever I want for the whole day.

If I want to reach my goals I need to stop with the self-sabotage and start making good decisions.  I know that when I do this I feel good (emotionally and physically).

More US Travel - Seattle

Soon after I got home from Chicago I started to plan my next trip (yes, I know I need to finish posting about Convention, I will get to that).  I am really lucky, in that I now have 3 weeks of paid vacation plus we close the office between Christmas and New Year's Eve and everyone gets those days off with pay.

I wanted to spend time in Victoria and visit with my parents and grandmother.  I did the same thing last year around Thanksgiving.  The year before that it was the Labour Day weekend (thanks for the reminder Facebook).  This time I picked the first couple of weekends in September again.

What was different, and awesome, was that I made my way to Victoria via Seattle.

I left Edmonton on Friday afternoon (Sept 4) and flew to Seattle via Calgary.  After making it through customs & security in Calgary, I ended up waiting at the gate, as our flight to Seattle got delayed about an hour.  What was interesting, is that security was at the gate with the passport of a woman and they escorted her onto the plane.  I overheard a bit of a cell phone conversation she was having, and it seems that her visa had run out and she was leaving Canada for the US (and hopefully figure out a way back to Canada).  It was kind of like an episode of Border Security.

So I finally landed in Seattle.  Then I had to wait for the Shuttle to my hotel in Lynnwood (which is about 30min north of Seattle, and about 45min from the airport).

My hotel for the first two nights was nice.  Free WiFi in my room, complimentary breakfast, and it has a kitchenette with a full fridge, microwave, dishwasher, cook top, and some kitchen supplies (pots, plates, cutlery, glasses etc).

On Saturday I made my way about 30min North to Tulalip.  I took Community Transit, so the trip took over 2 hours, mostly because the second transfer was not timed well.  It was Saturday and the buses were running on an hourly schedule.  Still, it was way cheaper than renting a car or taking a taxi.  Plus I got to see some of the area, meet some really nice people, and pick up groceries on the way home.

I shopped at the Premium Outlets of Seattle and bought some fancy new purses.  The Coach bag was originally $550 US (about $730 CA), and it was marked down 70% to $165.  Then I did not have to pay the sales tax because I was Canadian.  It ended up being just over $200 CA - score!

I bought another purse and a vest at Van Heusen that were both 70% off - I saved over $120.00 there. I bought $10 US G.H. Bass shoes (comfy blue loafer/deck/boat style ones) and a Guess purse.  I would have gone to Kate Spade, but I was so tired by that point and there was a line up for the store.

Sunday I made my way downtown to the Sheraton for my last night in Seattle.  That afternoon I went up the Space Needle and went through the awesome Chihuly Garden and Glass art museum.

Monday was the Clipper ferry trip to Victoria.  I walked around by the water/piers before I got on the boat.

It was a great weekend, and I walked almost 40,000 steps over 3 days.  On the Sunday, it was almost 20,000 steps just that one day.

I would love to go again.  Most of my trip was covered by Airmiles, and it really didn't take that many for 2 of the nights and the 2 flights.

It felt great to receive another 5 pound weight loss star at my Aug 8 WW meeting.  I am actually up a bit since then (mostly because of the water retention at that time of the month) - but it's just a blip and it will go back down.

My goal for the month of September is not to go crazy and gain weight on my holidays.  I am going to visit my parents and grandmother in Victoria for a week after spending the September long weekend in Seattle.  I just have to plan healthier meals and make good food decisions - but also allow myself a treat or two.  One of the great things about visiting the US is there are actually some delicious things that I cannot get here.  Chobani yogurt and some of the WW products are on my list to buy.

What I need to do is kick my lazy ass.  This week I have just wanted to veg on the couch after work.  I actually miss my evening walks.  Maybe I need to pick some new routes so I am not bored.

Focusing on walking more and eating better on the weekends has started to pay off.  I had losses in my last 4 WW meetings, and lost a total of 4.4 pounds.

I missed 2 meetings - the one where I was in Chicago, and the one after I got back.  I was up at least 5 pounds at home on July 4, and it was mostly water weight.  I had no control over the salt content of the food at the convention.  As you can see, I got back on track and all the "weight" came off in a week plus more.

Seeing these results lets me know that I don't need to binge on Saturday nights.  I can just pick one or two treats to enjoy and I actually feel better that way.  I am enjoying my evening walks (thank goodness the heat wave is over for now and I can get back out there).  I actually like getting my arse off the couch and moving more.

Weight loss is the best reward for my hard work.

Pi Beta Phi Convention 2015 - Part 1

I have been back home from Chicago for over a week.  It was truly an awesome time spent with all of my Pi Phi sisters.

Day 1 started with travelling to the Edmonton airport and catching my flight to Chicago.  I was halfway there when I realized I never put my FitBit back on after my shower.  Oh well, I wish I could have seen how many steps I was getting each day travelling around the hotel - but it was not worth going back home to grab (although I would have had time).

Of course I realized once I got to the airport that I would go through customs in Calgary.  So I had an hour and 15 min to debark the plane, grab my suitcase, go through customs, go through security, and get on my plane to Chicago.  I made it, but they were loading Zone 4 (the last passengers at the front of the plane, including my seat) when I got to the gate.

Landed in Chicago about 6:30 pm and found a member of our collegiate chapter waiting for her luggage as well.  We took the shuttle together to the hotel.  Once I was checked in I grabbed a salad and some fruit and hung out in our room.  My roommate arrived soon after I got settled.  Apparently at past conventions they would mix up the room assignments, but for the most part us Alberta girls were all placed together.  I shared a room with the president of our Chapter House Corporation, whom I know pretty well as I am the secretary on CHC and we were active members of Pi Phi at the same time.

Day 2 I woke up and leisurely got ready for my day.  Grabbed some Chobani yogurt and a muffin for breakfast.  I went to registration and got my tote bag and convention information.  Found Pi Phi Express and bought a couple of shirts, a necklace, and a key chain.  Then I met up with the group going on the artchitectural boat tour of Chicago.

It was drizzling rain and I wish I had an umbrella.  This really nice woman from Alabama named Linda bought us both plastic ponchos.  I took a million pictures of all the awesome buildings.  When we got back to hotel it was time to change for dinner.  After dinner we headed into our first General Session.  By the time we finished that I just crawled into bed and slept.

Those first couple of nights were the ones where I got the most sleep.  Apparently Convention is not about getting your beauty rest.

I will continue the rest of my trip in the next couple of posts . . .

I am definitely back on the right track and losing at a nice rate over the past few weeks (except for May 30 which was my time of the month and some bad food choices).

Part of what has helped with the losing trend over the past few weeks is that I am getting off my arse in the evenings and going for a walk.  This was I am getting in 10,000 steps/day.  Now I just need to work on getting in those steps on the weekend, especially Saturdays, as well as making better food choices on Saturdays.

I am not happy that I am down only 7 pounds in 6 months (since the beginning of 2015).  I keep gong up and down.  If I would just keep those up weeks to a minimum (in both occurrence and the amount I gain), I would see much more success.  I know I needed to switch things up, and I am working on it, especially with moving more.

It's hard work, but I have to stop being lazy.  My Fitbit is motivating me to walk more and I am really enjoying my evening walks.

The Windy City

Exciting news!  I am going to travel to Chicago at the end of June.

My Fraternity, Pi Beta Phi, is having their bi-annual convention, and I was picked to go as a member of our Chapter House Corporation.  The cost of the convention (accommodations, food & sessions) plus some of my flight down there is covered).

I arrive there on the Thursday evening and hopefully I can meet up with some fellow Edmonton Pi Phi sisters for dinner.  Friday morning I will do a little shopping.  Friday afternoon I am booked on a Chicago Architectural River Cruise as a pre-convention tour.

The actual convention starts Friday late afternoon/early evening.  Then Saturday, Sunday and Monday are filled with meetings, seminars, events, meals, etc.

I leave late on Tuesday, leaving some more time for shopping in Chicago.

It should be fun and educational - plus I get to go shopping in the US.  On Friday morning I would actually love to hit up a grocery store, it is one of my favourite things to do when I travel to the United States.

My passport has been updated (it had my old, married last name plus it was about to expire in October) and I have used the trip as an excuse to pick up a couple of cute dresses and shoes.  Of course I will wear these outfits to other places (most likely work).

I am counting down the days until I leave (23 as of today).  It's going to be great to go visit another city in another country.  I love to travel.

From mid April to mid May, there was a lot of ups and downs.  Overall I was up a little.  It was frustrating, but I had no one to "blame" but myself.  No excuses, it is no longer winter so I am going to get out there and walk around my neighbourhood each evening, plus I will walk around downtown at lunch.  I should have no problem hitting 10,000 steps a day.

The weather has been absolutely beautiful.  In fact in is really, really dry because we have had no rain or any other kind of moisture since a spring snowstorm on May 6.  We finally got leaves on our tree in our front yard because we gave it a bunch of water.  It is so dry there is a province wide fire ban.

I ended March with a bang and a big loss of almost 4 pounds.  I'll admit it has been a struggle since then, but hopefully I can end April/start May around 245 pounds (at home) and 247 pounds (at WW).
The change in the weather has definitely helped with my mood and my activity level.  I have been walking more at lunch.  I love getting some sunshine in the middle of my day.

I have been trying to eat better on Saturdays, with some success.  The past couple of weeks I have been just trying to log my points so I can see how much I am eating.  I am also making some better choices, like skinny lattes at Starbucks, making my own breakfast sandwiches, and Subway for lunch. I am just going to try to knock a couple of points off my food each week.

I know I was up, by quite a bit, at home on April 11.  With errands and then a girls day of shopping, I just didn't make it to my WW meeting.  It would have been ugly, like 4 pounds or more gained ugly. I have been trying hard to get back on track since then, and hopefully I can show good progress next month.

As for NSV (non-scale victories), I had a work event on April 16 and I fit into a size 16 dress I wore to a couple of weddings in the summer of 2009.

Ok, this has been a tough month.  I fell and injured my back 4.5 weeks ago.  For the most part it has healed, but every once in a while when I do too much (sitting, standing or walking) it bothers me a bit.  I am not going to let it get me down, but moving less/slower has resulted in the scale staying pretty much the same.

The weather has been great lately, and now I can walk on most of the sidewalks in our neighbourhood without risking my life.  The mailboxes are across the street, facing north and shadowed by a house & fence.  It took two days of it being around 15 above before I could even think of getting the mail ( I was making my youngest brother go get it).

The time change was also hard, as usual.  It really seems like an outdated concept.  We should be like Saskatchewan and get ride of it.  I am sure that is why I was up again last week even though I had a good week with my usual amount of walking as well as making good food choices.  Also it was that time of the month.  Yep, looking back, that week sucked.  I should be glad I was only up 1 pound.

I expect I will be down this week.  I would love to reach some of my small goals in the next couple of weeks (85 pounds down since Nov 2005, 70 pounds down since May 2012, and 70 pounds down since Nov 2012).

My only other goal in regards to weight loss is to lose more in 2015 than I did in 2014.  This is not unreasonable.  I can do this.

And now I bring you a picture of the magnolia trees in Victoria from my dad.  He made me jealous. Sigh.

Ups and Downs

I can't believe that it is almost March already.  Time is just flying by so quickly.

 - My back is almost 100% after hurting on Feb 13.  I drove to work all last week because I just could not imagine how I would manage the stairs and possibility of standing when taking the LRT.  This week I was back on public transit, and it was fine.  Today was the first day the stairs to 104 St did not hurt.

 - We did family portraits on Feb 14.  I can't wait to see the proofs.  Hopefully I can get a digital copies of a couple of the shots.  The photographer called yesterday and the proofs are ready - yay!

 - After the photo session, the four of us (Tim, Greg, and Tim's girlfriend Tracy) went all the way to Fort Saskatchewan for Pizza Delight.  It's an east coast chain that makes Tracy (who is from Bathurst, NB) feel at home.  It was a little funny that Valentine's dinner was more of a family dinner - but Tim invited Greg and I because it was not a romantic dinner.  The food was delicious.

 - I spent most of the Family Day long weekend on the couch with a heating pad.  Finally managed to finish Games of Thrones season 2.  Now I want seasons 3 and 4 (which I bought last weekend and I watched the first two episodes of season 3).  I am also finishing House of Cards season 2.

 - Had a review at work and it went really well.  We really need to sit down and have a meeting about where we want the circulation department to go in 2015, because we did get off topic a little a couple of times.  In the end I got a raise, and it was actually a little more than I was expecting.

 - A couple of alumni of my fraternity (including myself) made chili for the active chapter on Monday.  It went over really well.  I used my slow cooker (with a liner) and made vegetarian chili.  It could have been thicker ( I added too much vegetable broth), but it was delicious.

 - I am tired of all the ups and downs with the weather.  The week started out with a high of 7 above, and then this morning it was 20 below (without the windchill).  Of course March is usually when we have the craziest weather, but hopefully no more minus 20 temps.  Brrrrrrrr.

I am quite proud of myself.  Since I got back from Victoria and got back on track, I have seen a loss every week.  That is a 4 week streak.

As for exercise, I have been walking more.  I also bought a simple kickboxing video, but I have not started that yet.

Last Friday morning I was walking down the sidewalk from my house to the bus stop to go to work. I hit a patch of ice and slipped.  My feet went out from under me and I fell - hard - on my ass.  Luckily I did not break anything, but I did pull a muscle (or a few) in my lower back.  I have basically spent 4 days on the couch with a pillow for extra lumbar support & a heating pad plus some Robax.  It's still sore but getting better.  I hate being a klutz.

So not much exercise or movement over the past 4 days.  I hope I heal quickly.

Dreams and Nightmares

I occasionally have night terrors.  Actually they probably happen more often than I think they do, but they only wake me up sometimes.

They started when I first moved out and was living in a tiny two-bedroom basement apartment with my best friend.  At that time they were usually just about bugs on the walls.  I would hit the bugs (in my sleep), and wake myself up.  I think they were mostly due to the actual mice we had living in the walls.

We moved to a larger two bedroom coach home.  Then the night terrors changed and really started to amp up.  They usually involved a scary, dark figure being in my room.  I would throw pillow and knock over my bedside lamp before I would wake myself up.

Then I moved in with my boyfriend into our first place in Calgary.  One night I grabbed the pillow out from under his head and threw it across the room.  Freaked him out completely.  Again, usually I was seeing dark, scary figures in my room.  Sometimes dark, other world creatures would crawl up from the floor onto my bed.

Now that I am back in Edmonton, I still have them, but less often (I think).  Once there was a blond little girl twirling around and around at the end of my bed.  Another time an older woman was at the top corner of my room, she kind of looked like Helen Mirren.  It's creepy and weird and why I wake myself up screaming.  Then of course I have trouble falling back asleep.

They usually occur between 10:30 pm and 11:30 pm (depending on when I turn out my light).  They happen more often when I am tired and I fall asleep really fast.  Apparently, if someone would gently wake me up around just after I fall asleep (so before I have a night terror), it would help stop them from happening.

Besides the night terrors I have had a couple of just really odd dreams lately.  A couple of them involved my ex husband.  I think because he is on my mind this time of year.  Two years ago is when we were separated, but still "living together" in the same house.  In January I spent a week in Edmonton, then he spent two weeks crashing at a friend's house.  When he got back we slept in separate bedrooms.  It was right before the Family Day holiday that we decided to officially end it, and I went to Edmonton for the weekend, which is when my aunt offered me my new position in circulation.  My the end of March I was packed up and moved back in Edmonton.

I felt so alone and sad back then.  It was horrible.  Now, life is fairly awesome.  I love my new job (well not so new anymore) and my new-to-me house.  I have less debt, less stress, and more friends than when I was in Calgary.  With the divorce finalized I can close a book on that chapter of my life and look forward.

Also, I hope that in time I will sleep easier in my very comfortable new queen-sized bed.

Overall, I had a really good holiday season in regards to weight loss.  I think when I came back from Victoria I was up about 5 or 6 pounds.  By the time I hit my WW meeting on Jan 10, I was only up 1.3 pounds.  I know that losing that 4 pounds right before I left for my holidays helped quite a bit.  So did making some healthier choices while at my parent's house.  I admit, I also drank a lot of alcohol and ate a lot of sweets, and I did not walk as much as I do when I am home.  I also think that having a cold at the end of the holiday helped, because I was not really hungry.

Now I am moving towards being under 250 on my home scale as well as losing 65 pounds at WW.

We have a work event/lunch for our Business Person of the Year on Thursday.  That will involve a lot of walking and standing.

The weather is good right now, especially for January in Edmonton.  So I have been walking around downtown at lunch.  If I could just add 15 - 20 min of exercise at home each day, I would see some awesome results.  I just want to lose more than 21 pounds in 2015 (that is what I lost in 2014).  I know that it is great that I weigh less than last year - but I want to see some improvement in 2015.

Christmas Holidays - Part 2

The second half of my holidays in Victoria started with me driving my dad to the airport on the morning of Dec 29.  My cousins got ready to take the ferry home to Surrey.  The nurse arrived to give my grandmother her shower, and my mom took me and my brothers and Tracy out for lunch.  After some food and a little window shopping we went home for a bit before I drove Tim, Tracy & Greg to the airport for their flight home.

Sometime around the 28 or 29 I caught a cold.  At first I was just sneezing a lot, but soon my nose was just a constant drip fest.  I used so many tissues.  Then I had a couple of nights of coughing. This meant I stayed away from my grandmother and washed my hands a lot.  By the time January 3 rolled around I was much, much better.

On New Year's Eve Kristine drove down from Nanaimo.  She was also getting over a cold, so we didn't do much besides playing cards and watching the Bourne trilogy on the projection television in the man cave.  We stayed up to midnight on New Year's Eve and watched all the different fireworks from the windows of my parent's house.

My mom used up the pineapple we had in the fridge by making a pineapple upside down cake. Kristine and I went for a walk on the beach and went to see "The Gambler" on Jan 1.  It was an ok movie, but we were both looking for something with more action.

Early on January 4 I got up and my dad drove me to the airport.  Once I was checked in, I found out that the flight was delayed over an hour because of the cold weather in Edmonton.  I was not excited to leave Victoria, with the temp being around +5 and head to Edmonton where the weather was -30 (or colder).

I had the chance to eat breakfast and read a book on my Kobo.  Silly me, I left my Kobo on the plane (in the seat pocket).  So this past Saturday, I drove in the blowing snow out to the airport to retrieve my eReader.  My brother picked me up at the airport on Jan 4 and I am back home for the next few months.

It was a great vacation.  I love my parent's house, especially the views.  There was an abundance of delicious food but I was only up about 1 pound at WW at my first meeting back.  I will do a weight loss update later this week.

Mostly I am so glad that the weather here in Edmonton has warmed up so I am not wearing 52 layers every time I go outside.

Happy New Year and may 2015 be an awesome year for everyone !!

Christmas Holidays - Part 1

It is 2015 and I was back to work last Monday after spending 15 days in Victoria with my family.

The holiday season actually started back on Dec 2 with my company's annual holiday party.  We started with appetizers, cocktails (wine and eggnog with rum) and a white elephant gift exchange.  I pulled number one from the hat, which is actually the best number.  After everyone else has chosen a gift or stole one from someone else - I got to go back and steal anything I wanted from all the gifts.  I ended up with a movie night out package (2 tickets plus popcorn & drinks) that I gave to my brother's girlfriend for Christmas.

After the game and fun we headed next door to Character's restaurant for dinner.  It was delicious and I had a great time conversing with the coworkers at my table.

On Dec 20 I made it to my WW weigh-in and then finished packing before I stopped in at a Christmas Open House held by one of my friends from high school.  Then I went to the airport and got on my flight to Victoria (with a stop in Calgary).

I spent a few days with just my parents and my grandmother.  We baked cookies, did puzzles, and went out for lunch & shopping on the 22 while the nurse was in for her Monday shift with my grandmother.  We also made buns and sticky cinnamon rolls.  Then we made more on the 24th.

The clock I ordered for my grandmother on the 19th ( from DayClox ) and the second toy I bought for Jackson ( One and Two ) - were both delivered before Christmas.

Tim, Tracy and Greg (my younger brothers and Tim's girlfriend) arrived on Dec 24.  My mom made chicken wings and seafood (crab and shrimp) along with some appetizers from M&M Meat Shops for dinner.  There were cookies for dessert (oatmeal, chocolate with M&M's, ginger, and short bread - oh and florentine toffee).

We opened our presents on Christmas morning.  I can't remember the last time we did that.  Usually we have our gift exchange after dinner on Christmas Eve.  I received money and gift cards (Starbucks & Addition Elle).  I have plans to go buy a new iPhone 6 Plus after work on Friday.

Christmas dinner was delicious.  My dad made a Lynn Crawford recipe for Sticky Tofffee Pudding Cake with cranberry caramel sauce and eggnog mousse.  The eggnog mousse had booze in it and was so delicious.  I could have just had a bowl of caramel sauce.

My mom's sister Lynn and nephew Conan (so my aunt and cousin) arrived on Dec 26 from Vancouver and stayed the night.  This meant that I bunked in with Tim & Tracy on a blow-up mattress while Greg slept in the third floor plant room.

Then on Dec 27 my dad's nephew - my cousin Jeremy - arrived with his wife Rachel and their 8 month old son Jackson.  He is absolutely adorable.  He was learning to pull himself up on tables, chairs etc.  He can also crawl with quite some speed.  We bought him all these fun, noisy toys.  They stayed until Dec 29.

It was great being able to visit with my family.  That is why it is my favourite time of the year.
